A ruched skirt overlay falls over a flared leg, so you get the movement of a skirt and the coverage of a legging in a single high-waisted pair.

Why you will love it

  • A ruched overlay sits over the hip and falls away from the body, which softens the line across the front and gives the pair the swing of a skirt without a second layer to keep track of.
  • The leg below the overlay is cut on a flare, so it opens from the knee and clears the foot instead of stacking at the ankle.
  • One pull-on piece: the overlay is set into the same waistband, so nothing shifts, rides up or needs re-tying between poses.
  • A breathable polyester and spandex knit with a matte face, so the pair reads as a skirt-trouser rather than gym kit when you wear it out of the studio.

Fabric and construction

The body and the overlay are cut from the same 82.5% polyester, 17.5% spandex knit, a fine-gauge blend with a matte face and enough spandex to hold its shape through a session. Polyester carries the durability and keeps the colour deep after washing; the spandex share supplies the give the flare needs to move without pulling at the knee.

The overlay is ruched into the waistband seam rather than stitched flat, which is what creates the soft vertical folds and lets the fabric fall away from the hip. The knit is breathable in wear rather than coated, so it does not trap heat the way a film-faced fabric can. Slight variation of 1 to 2 cm between pieces is normal for knitwear.

Fit and sizing

This style runs true to standard US sizing, so take the size you normally wear in leggings. The waist is high and close, the flare begins at the knee, and the overlay adds visual volume at the hip without adding bulk at the waist.

If you are between sizes, take the larger one. The knit has plenty of give, but the overlay needs a little room at the hip to fall in folds rather than stretch flat across it; sizing up also keeps the waistband comfortable when you sit for long periods.

Care

  • Cold machine wash with like colours, inside out.
  • Do not bleach.
  • Tumble dry low, or hang to dry to protect the stretch.
  • Do not iron.
  • Do not dry clean.

Questions

Is the skirt overlay attached, or is it a separate piece?

It is attached. The overlay is ruched into the same high-rise waistband as the leg, so it is one pull-on pair. Nothing ties, nothing shifts and there is no second waistband to adjust, which is the point of the style: the look of a skirt with the coverage of a legging.

Will the overlay ride up when I move?

It is set into the waistband along its full width, so it moves with the waist rather than sliding over it. In deep forward folds or wide lunges the folds will compress and re-form, which is normal for a ruched panel. Sizing up when you are between sizes keeps the panel falling rather than stretching across the hip.

Are they opaque enough to wear without a long top?

The knit is dense and opaque in normal wear, including squats and forward folds. The dark colourways, black and espresso, are the most forgiving under strong backlight; the ivory and grey read lighter in direct sun, as any pale knit does.

Can I wear them outside the studio?

Yes. The flare and the skirt overlay give the pair a trouser line rather than a legging line, and the matte face keeps it from looking like activewear. They sit comfortably under a cropped knit or an oversized shirt, and the full length clears most flat shoes and low trainers.
