A tee that treats your back as the place you actually overheat, and does something about it.

Most workout tees are one flat sheet of fabric from neck to hem. This one is not. A curved mesh panel runs across the upper back and down the spine, so the heat that builds up between your shoulder blades has somewhere to go, while the front and sides stay smooth and opaque.

Fabric and construction

The body is an 88% polyester, 12% spandex knit. The polyester carries moisture away from the skin and dries quickly, while the spandex content is high enough that the fabric follows a long reach without pulling across the chest or riding up at the hem. The mesh section is a finer open knit in the same colour, so the ventilation reads as a design line rather than a patch.

Seams are flat-stitched and the shoulder uses a raglan cut, which moves the seam away from the top of the shoulder where a bag strap or a strap of a bra would sit. Cut and sewn by hand, so slight variation of 1 to 2 cm between pieces is normal for knitwear and not a fault.

Fit and sizing

This tee runs true to standard US sizing. It is cut with a little room through the body rather than skin-tight, so take your usual size for the intended fit; if you prefer a closer line under a jacket or a crop, size down one.

The hem sits at the hip, which keeps it in place in forward folds and does not ride up when you lift your arms. If you are between sizes and want it to work as a layering piece, stay with the larger size.

Questions

Is the mesh back see-through?

The mesh panel is a fine open knit in the same colour as the body. It is designed as a ventilation zone rather than a sheer panel, but it is more open than the front fabric, so a dark sports bra may show through in strong light.

Can I wear it without a bra underneath?

The fabric is soft and light rather than compressive, and the tee has no built-in support. Most people wear it over a sports bra, which the round neck and raglan shoulders are cut to accommodate.

Will it work for hot weather running?

Yes. The knit is thin, dries quickly and the back panel is there specifically to release heat. It is not a waterproof or windproof shell, so in heavy rain it will wet through like any lightweight knit.

Does the colour stay after washing?

The fabric is dyed solid and holds colour well when washed cold with like colours and dried low or hung. Wash it separately from new dark denim for the first few cycles, as you would with any light knit.
